Mamaw HereJust had to get this off my chest. If I ever find Murphy (as in law) I may commit murder!! Went out on Monday a beautiful springlike day to put the back forty to bed for the winter, intended to use the blower on the thousands of leaves but before I did that I had to pick up all sticks that had fallen from the numerous trees I have around here, used the electric blower as far as it would reach, it is lighter than the gas one and I needed to get the leaves out of the rocks between the house and the river. To do that you have to walk in the rocks which is no easy fete. My feet slid numerous and sundry times so I went into the house, changed into my new $12.00 work boots (on sale at the K-Mart), not only did that not help, I had a blister forming on my ankle, soo I had to go change again! Then the cord on the blower kept getting caught on the rocks, some of them very little, so I had to climb out, climb the bank, untangle, and go again, hard as I tried to keep the cord free, it didn't happen. It was time to drag out the big boy, but before I could do that I had to trim some ivy, a lot of ivy , as a matter of fact, which was growing on top of the rocks under the forsythia bush, which attacked me every time I crawled under it. In the meantime, I was taking breaks, hanging my laundry, which is not as theraputic as it once was when that was the only thing that got me outside, little did I know! Also checked the leak I have in the hot tub and treated the water. That went pretty well but it is still frustrating. The plumber is supposed to come tomorrow to check it out, but not if Murphy has anything to say about it! On with the saga. After pulling a few weeds, I did finally get the gas blower going , but not until Murphy came along again!! You have to lay it on it's side to gas it up, which I faithfully do, but if the cap gets put back on crooked all gas starts flowing out onto the ground, so I mopped up the mess on the driveway but did not refill, so when I got down to the last few feet, it ran out of gas. I quit on that chore and fired up the riding mower so I could mulch the leaves in the front yard and on the lot, and the force of the blade will blow away any loose leaves left on the driveway.
My shoes kept coming untied, and I stepped on the laces a few times until I took time to tie a double knot. As soon as I did that I felt something sticking in my little to, so I had to untie, inspect my shoe and sock (the culprit was a small stick, about the size of a pine needle that had worked it's way into my sneaker. Murphy did it, is the only thing I can figure. Just relating this story is frustrating me so I'll end it by telling you that I was in the yard from 11:00 AM till 5:00 PM, and had left my clothes on the line for so long that they got damp again, after hanging in a soft, sunshiny breeze all day, perfect for drying clothes. I don't even know what I had for dinner. I had a small muffin for breakfast, no lunch, and I think cheese and crackers because I was too tired and frustrated to feed myself (not that I needed much after all the Thanksgiving food.) I made it into the hot tub at about 7:00 PM, soaked for a long time, which relaxed me, showered and fell into bed. My hot tub buddy is sick with a virus so I'm going it alone. She did finally go to health plus because she lost her voice, and felt pretty ratty.
Regardless of all those complaints, I'm thankful that I am able to go outside and work, and that I have the equipment to help, even though I cannot always get it to co-operate. MURPHY'S *&%@**** FAULT!!!!!!! I'm keeping the faith, hope you all are too.
Love Ya,
Mamaw
